Maya Stress W

Stress is an essential body condition which is part of our survival.

Our environment, families, work and diet can change this delicate mechanism that controls hormones, neurotransmitters, digestion, fertility.

We commonly dismiss its effects on our body system and ultimately on our health and we can hear ourself say ‘I’m stressed’ and then move onto something else.

In this nutrition class we will discuss the physiological effect of prolonged stress on all our body system and we will understand its biochemical effect on our cells.

As a result, we will be able to unlock some of the many pathologies and use food and lifestyle changes to manage it.

To complement the nutritional aspect of this workshop with a physical activity we’ll learn some basic stretching exercises that can be done at home or/and at work on a daily basis in order to help keeping in control the levels of stress and relieve stiffness caused by a sedentary lifestyle.

Stretching should be a part of your daily routine, whether you exercise or not as it helps to improve flexibility and expanding our range of motion. We all can learn to stretch properly, regardless of age or flexibility.

As you age your muscles tighten and range of motion in the joints can be minimized. However, when done correctly, stretching can do more than just increase flexibility, the benefits include:

* Increase mental and physical relaxation

* Enhance development of body awareness

* Reduce risk of injury to joints, muscles, and tendons

* Reduce muscular soreness and tension by lubricating connective tissues

* Improve ability to learn and perform skilled movements

We’ll finish the class with a nice relaxation to leave you ready to go home as light as a feather!
